The rule should be "search first before posting". Good advice is still good advice, months later.
Meaning the original posters problem has been resolved and the rule IS search before posting.

Thanks for bringing up the topic again. I've got to replace my rear brake and I can go hydro or Avids. Lots of good info! I'm pro-life for any old topics...

I was put to the test today and felt different levers.

The Test: Hayes HFX 9 and Avid Mechanical.

The Avid MEchanical was on a rush lever.

During the initial pull wiht my eyes closed and each hand on a lever........They felt exactly the same. I kid you not.

I would choose avid mech over hydros any day.

Do you not know how to use a search feature?

Look at the top of the page right under the Bike Forums logo. It says Logout - Mark All Forums Read - Calendar - Members List -
Search The Forums - View New Posts

If you click where it says "Search the Forums" you can find a wealth of information without having some newbie playing Doc Frankenstien.

raiyn I'm new here myself but I personally see nothing wrong with bringing up an old topic. If not then why would replies be allowed on old posts. Why wouldn't posts over a certain age be locked.

I like the information still being presented here, its always nice to have as many opinions as possible on a subject. Seems like the rest of us like this topic having been brought back up.

Because I was having a perfectly enjoyable read until you started in with your "unwritten rules" and turned a thread about disc brakes into a tedious off-topic argument. It seems to me that is really where crap began stirring. So far, you are the only person who has a problem with reviving the thread. Why should the rest of us be compelled to adhere to your preferences?

Because I'm not the only one who prefers it that way sparky I'm merely the most vocal. It wasn't necessary to add to this thread as the original question was OBVIOUSLY answered three months ago and any subsequent questions were left unanswered for three months. I doubt seriously that the last poster from MARCH really gives a crap what someone posts three months AFTER the fact he moved on why can't the rest of you?

Raiyn i'm gonna have to agree with the Newbs(first time ever) on this one. This issue is still extremely relevant to bikes today and it still doesn't bore me yet. So unless you feel the need to delete this i vote that it doesn't die!!!

He used the search feature, found the thread, and added more info. Nothing at all to do with the post you linked.

Great thread, good information, no problem with it being brought back up.

Yeah, I didn't look at a calendar, just thinking about my "every other weekend" with my son.

I'll probably go anyways. No other plans as of yet!!!!

Might stick around and see the Suncoast Offshore Power Boat races held down here! Good excuse for a party!

I've ridden with both mechs and hydros, and I like the feel of Hydros better. The lines don't gunk up like Cables do. The main problem with Hydros is if a line is destroyed while out in the middle of nowhere, you cannot make a quick fix (eg swapping derraileur cable for brake cable) like with a mechanical system.

Exactly how do you propose to swap a dérailleur cable for a brake cable? The ends are NOT interchangeable. The easy thing would be to just bring a spare cable.
