Can you tell me anything (history) about my bike?

This bike was given to me about 12 years ago. The brand is Pyton?!? and the model is Boa?!? Designed in Canada, but made in China. Double butted cro-mo (Tange), with Shimano Deore LX groupset, 7 speed.
  • Is it a private label bike of some other more famous brand?
  • Is it in a geometry that I can put some forks with shocks on it?
  • Not really looking to sell, but what would something like this be worth these days?

Anyway, here are some pictures. THANKS!

No info but hey neighbor

Edit.

Tange is not bad.
Araya is not bad.
Forged drop outs are not bad.
LX is not bad.

All in all I'd say your bike is pretty good.

Sorry I can't be more helpful

Cool. Not many people from Lawrence on these forums. I'm much more a road biker, so rarely come in the MTB forum. But just trying to get some info. on my mysterious bike...

Might be the wrong year but you can look at this.

http://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/B...=Boa&Type=bike

It's the entry level bike for Reece cycles.

Thanks! That's very interesting. Some components on my bike don't match exactly with what's described on the website, but it's very close. The strange thing is, I got my bike in Canada, yet the site indicates that Python is a European brand. So, Eurpoean brand, designed in Canada, manufactured in China... Truely a global economy I guess

I would say, for its age, being made from Tange chromo it shouldn't tip the scales too bad; and that it should snake through singletrack fairly adeptly with constricting your style too much.

I see what you did there :)

Is that an old person joke? Will I laugh at it in 40 years?

Thats an interesting fork. Looks like a solid ride to me

I have had some Pythons come through our shop and they all seemed to be middle to even higher end bikes with relatively light frames and good components... they were not sold here for very long.

It looks like a really unique bike. I really like the fork.

Yes, it is a strange fork. Shaped like a suspension fork with without the suspension. Makes me wonder whether I can put a suspension fork on it and make it a true mountain bike :)

I know absolutely nothing about mountain bikes, so any advice about cheap improvements would be appreciated.

If the steer tube is the right diameter throw a dart one or something on it.

If you are lucky - - no; unless you made it yourself. Anybody in my family will tell you that my puns are desperately funny: as in, people are desperate to escape by any means possible my lame attempts at humor.
