Cheeto'd my frok
 

I was JRA after work minding my own business heading downtown to get me summadat Sesamee Street Live tickets. I was clipping right along and came up on an alley with a "sidewalk drop-in". I rolled in, looked down the alley as I crossed it to make sure I didn't get creamed by some idiot in a hoopty, when I looked forward again I was immediately introduced to an 8" curb. I didn't expect it to be there or I'd have bunnyhopped my poor 1978 Schwinn Super LeTour 12.2 singlespeed courier bike had I the split second to do so.

I went over the bars quicker'n'snot and hopped back up even faster. I looked around to see if anybody had their cell phone camera pointed at me, but there wasn't a soul in sight. A little banged up and bleeding, I looked my bike over and noticed that the front tire was 2" behind the down tube, BWAHAHAHA!!! My frokking frok was bent backward like a silly biznatch:D

I took the front wheel out and bent it back to where I "think" it needs to be, hehe.

Road bikes are ghey. I doubt I would have even noticed the curb on my MTB until my rear wheel hit it:lol:



Would you recommend me getting a new freaking frok or should I just ride it like it is? (it's steel)

They got these silly Tange 1" threaded little salad-forks for 27" wheels for like 25 bones, but if mine will stand the impact and the "bend-back"...I'd just as soon leave it alone. I got the bike fo free!

lol owned, when i read the title I assumed you broke your commode, anyway technically you shouldn't ride your fork anymore, but i know people who have bent back steel forks and never had a problem. I do wanna point out that that looks like a lugged fork in the pic, so i'd be more worried about it (i know someone who bent back a lugged fork and is fine too). Its basically just gambelling... with your life. Metal fatigue and all that ect ect. The importent thing is to inspect it for cracks or more likely crimps, if you see evidence of the bend/bend back thats prolly bad (but you prolly inspected it already w/e)

in the end if you can replace for 25 bucks i'd do it, just imagine what would happen in a catestrophic failure at speed and in traffic...

actually if it was mine i'd replace it even if it wasn't that cheep but w/e

It's a pretty nice frame. Lugged and pretty. It's just a free beater to me. I could possibly have gotten a couple hundred out of it when it was a geared collectible, but...don't care. It's a good SS to ride to work. Used to be anyway.

When you can get it in the light, look your frame over carefully and make sure you didn't do something like this:

When I did this to my bike, most of the paint stayed in place. It took several weeks to flake off. At first the only damage I could see was the bulge on the bottom of the downtube.

Sounds like a typical hack maneuver. My suggestion is to give up cycling altogether.

Some of the pain & embarrassment of the incident will subside when you start groovin' to the tunes of Sesame Jamboree (or whatever this year's road show theme is :)).

Bent and bent back once should be OK. In the meantime, you could get hold of Pastor Bob (pastorbobnh, I believe); he has a ton of old Schwinns and you could probably get a - - matching even - -replacement from him. Or start scouting what yard sales are still going. I'd offer mine but the bike is whole and running good.

Like I been sayin'.

I'm thinking he gave up cycling some time ago. That stuff he's been doing since is just a front.
