08 Epic Comp vs. Building

I saw an 08 Epic Expert at the LBS for $2100. Took it for a spin for a day and really liked it. Ive never owned a FS bike before. At the same time, i was planning on buying parts that I wanted and putting on together myself. For anyone with experience with this bike or what not. Would you think I would be able to save a few hundered by building one with better components rather than buying the whole thing? Of course ill make ebay and grab on to deals when purchasing parts for the bike.
Here a link to the bike..its actually cheaper here

Depending on what you can get it for the Trek could be a good deal but that shock isn't going to offer the same adjustability and ride that a newer shock will. A FS bike with poor suspension pieces isn't much of a bike. Also, I see posts for rim brakes but can't tell if there are disk mounts as well. I won't ride an MTB with rim brakes. So, on second thought I'd pass on the Trek. If you want an Epic look around on EBay for a frame. There's at least a couple of S-Works Epics on there right now.
