Rockhopper equivalent w/o disk or sus

I'm looking for a mtb, something like a base model Rockhopper but I dont want suspension forks or disk brakes (I want low weight and maintenance).

I want to have similar quality to a Rockhopper frame and components. I dont want to build my own, I want it pre-assembled from LBS.

I may look at a 2008 Rockhopper (base model, has sus fork but no disks) - my LBS has 20% off. Any known issues with the 2008 model ?

Go get the Rockhopper, have the shop (or do it yourself) swap on a rigid fork. Something like a nice Kona P2. Nice fork that is fairly light, does the job well, and won't break the bank.

FWIW, most disc brakes and suspension aren't really bad to take care of if you're at all mechanically inclined.

I'm sure I can learn how to take care of those components, but I just dont have enough time to do that kinda stuff any more. BTW if I get a Rockhopper, I wont change anything on it, I'll just live with it.

I'd think that you'd be more likely to find no suspension and v-brakes with a single speed 29ers.

Here is an example: http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/...tcast29_08.htm
