XC shoes
 

okay, so I am starting to train for some xc racing and i no longer want to have flats on my bike. Iv'e got some crank bros smarty's i can throw on there but i have no shoes for them. any suggestions on what shoes to get?

Sidi Dominators. They're spendy but they're pretty damn nice.

answer makes a nice entry level shoe. i paid like 90 bucks for mine and they lasted me almost 6 years. Both of these look good....

First ... what shape is your foot. Are your feet narrow or wide? This will make a lot of decisions for you.

I had a carbon-soled road shoe version of this shoe. Same two straps and ratcheting buckle. It was a half-size too big so I was prone to really cranking down on that ratchet and it eventually broke. It is not repairable because the buckle plastic is sown on to the strap, and the plastic was just torn in half.

Anyway, get the Sidis. The buckles and straps are repairable/replaceable if they ever break.

I recently was gifted the s-works with the steel cable wind-up closures- I am blown away with their lightness, stiffness, and spaceage design. It takes a mechanic to relace them, though.

Be careful if you order online, hard to know if they'll fit. Best is to go to an LBS and try on. I have also heard lots of positives concerning Special Ed shoes.

to OP:

i have a nice pair of gaerne shoes that have not sold on ebay that are not used much that kill my feet. i never realized how wide my foot was. it will change a little as you get older as well.

i won't ever buy any shoe now unless it is designated as "wide" or a 4E if an option. whether it be running, dress, soccer, etc

What? A slap in the face of your LBS if you try on their shoes, then go off and order online.

+1- If you plan on wanting decent service from the shop in the future, don't do that!

its ok, im allowed to. i worked at my lbs over the summer and now im chill with the employees

Are you chill with the shop owner, too?

just remember, that doesn't tell the tale of a 6+ hour ride or century. your feet expand. plus constant pressure you don't feel in the store is like a bed sore after that much time.

just be cautious. those gaerne i mentioned above feel fine around the house...but kill my foot riding.
