1995 Parkpre Scepter Comp

I have this vintage (old) bike. I am debating, do I spend money on updating or buy new?? The issue is ,I just purchased a KHS Solo One SS 29er and I am riding that almost all the time. But I still would like to have a geared bike available or am I being an old wimp. Just looking for opinons.

Thanks
Mike

Keep/upgrade only if you really love your old bike.

Here's a copy of a post about mine (Parkpre):

My hardtail ride is the same bike that I bought in 1994- Parkpre Team 925, steel frame. I've taken good care of it and put many thousands of miles on it (less miles nowadays 'cause I also have a FS). There is absolutely no component on it that is original, with most stuff having been replaced multiple times. I'm actually on my second crankset (rings replaced many times), but only because there were grooves from my shoes wearing the sides of the crank arms. I love my steel Parkpre.

"Is that 825 steel?'

Yeah it's Tange Ultimate Superlight Prestige. I'm running it fixed, 18/32 with an eccentric Eno hub.

I also got some NOS Suntour XC pro Microdrive cranks. I'm waiting till after Xmass to build a matching purple rim disc wheel for the front.

The house is awesome thanks to my Wife.

My Wife is awesome for putting up with my bikes and bike junk!

The Purple Ano Critical Racing canti brakes that came on the Parkpre are on one of my 'cross bikes...

To the OP: I'd keep the Parkpre geared. Different rides, other terrain , tired legs, other groups need varied bikes!

Fifteen bikes or so ought to cover it.

OK, so here's my Team 925. Started out as an LX 7speed. Been through lots of parts, so nothing original on it. Oh, the front LX hub alone is original to the bike, with an old Mavic 231 rim laced to it, temporary wheel I pulled outta the spare parts since I tacoed the other wheel a few months back.

The decals are dated. I like the other poster's 825 better for the nice clean look without decals (and fixie!). Built this bike back up a couple years ago with mostly new parts. XT crank/derailleurs/shifters, XTR V brakes/levers, older 2002 Marzocchi Z3, older XT hubs w/Mavic 717's, Thomson stem, FSA carbon straight bar, Ballistic ti seatpost and bar ends, Terry Ti Fly saddle, Velociraptor meats. Old school for sure. And weld pics re: the other poster.
