bash guard ?

hey guys i want to put a bash guard on my bike, i am looking for one that will replace my large chain ring( which is a 44t and middle ring is a 34t) what do you guys recommend ?

If you want to keep your big ring, look at the blackspire big ring protector. It is great.

Listen dude...not everyone wants to be as cool as you. ;) He wants to replace the 44t.

Get an E.13 lexan ring.

yea i never use my big chain ring and it has been getting beat up. i figured it would be nice not to have those teeth right next to my ankle, i already have one nice scar from it.

I could see myself putting one on the crapper in the distant future.

I know. Not everyone can handle this much goodness. I tried to stay in the middle ring today, but sprinting home after it got dark, I was spinning too fast, so I had to shift up. The 5% of the time that I need it, I really need it.

IMO the best thing about bashguards is being able to wear long pants without a rubber band.

I'll second that

yeah e13 rings are great, i've got a fsa polycarb bash on my rush, and its been really solid and its a bit cheaper than the e13, so if you wanna save a little cash thats an option but the e13 ones are better.

yeah i love that i can just ride in pants, also since it takes off like 3/4 of an inch of chainring raidius i clear more stuff, and i can wail on it thats nice to

oh and if your really looking for a budget bash bbg is an option, but my friend bent his on a log like 3 weeks after getting it, so if you only kinda need a bash might be an option, but if you really want somthin you can slam i'd stear away

Ok, I'm recycling this thread. I'm replacing the 44T, the middle ring is a 32T. Size choice for the e.13 is 32,36 or 40. I'm guessing I should get the 40, is this correct or should it match the middle ring size?

should match middle ring size (ie a 32 tooth bash means max rings size is a 32) but you can get a bigger one if you want, maybe consider the 36, if you find the 32t gear isn't enough you may wanna get a 36t later and it would be lame to have to buy another bash, but if you think you will never need it get a 32

+1...good advice.

Though I know I won't go over 32t, therefore I have the 32 b/c I think it looks tight and gives me more clearance.

Why I bought my current bashguard.... of course with it still yet to be installed, I just have my pants gradually being mangled....

Thanks for the advice SirTig. 32 it is then.

Did you check out the link? Pricepoint looks like a decent site to order from, I've also been getting in trouble w/ ChainLove lately also. I'd rather support a LBS but I live out in the sticks, so I go w/ paying for shipping...

Another question: Should I adjust the front derailleur or leave it and remember not to shift to the big ring? Also, I should be able to tighten the chain by ~3 links, correct?

Thanks again for the help.

I was thinking of getting one of these, but doesn't come in 38. I have tight clearances, so I think a 40 might hit. Do they make a 38?

as far as i know e13 doesn't make a 38t, but bbg does, (I assume 104 bcd) not as nice as an e13, but at least there is somthin out there http://www.bbgbashguard.com/Mountainbike.html
