We need your help....

Mongoose Kakok Foundation Project

Having a broken leg really restrains you from doing anything. So I figured I would give back to our global world. My parent’s family friends have started a foundation in Haiti on their own, building a school and medical center. The husband is an avid road cyclist so I know he will be happy to hear about this project (they don’t get to check email very often down there).

I’ve decided that with the help from the bike community we can repair and make this Mongoose Zero G a better working bike, and put it up for sale on eBay or Craigslist and 100% of the money received from selling the bike will go to the foundation.

The foundations website is Kakok Foundation

The article and information about donating toward completing the Mongoose Kakok Donation Project is here: Mongoose Kakok Foundation Project

I'll trade you Two singlespeed bikes for that Mongoose. I Can't imagine getting more than $300 from the sale of the Mongoose, and that is being quite generous.

Actually, I'll trade you my KHS (sans any multi-speed bits you won't be using anyways) for the Mongoose, if you'd like to convert a nice '90s MTB.

Thanks for the offer, $250 - $300 was actually what I was expecting, maybe even a bit less. I would take you up on the Single Speed offers but i think shipping and all that from Fl to Vancouver might be a bit of a pain. Lets see how the donation work, so far we got rumor of a chain and saddle, and maybe some grips from ODI.

If all else fails maybe I will take you up on the offer...

Yeah, shipping two bikes would be a pain for me, and you probably wouldn't like 'em. One of them is the last bike in my sig...

Anyways, enjoy the project and don't throw anything away, well except that seat!

Make sure you post the auction announcement here, with Mongoose in the subject, and I'll likely bid. Assuming you don't modify the frame so that it can't accept a derailer hanger anymore, and you'd be willing to toss in all the multispeed bits you tore off it...

ha I sure would be willing to throw all the parts we take off if you are the winning bidder =P.

I see you have the same bike, I use to love it, and its geometry. Do you ride it a lot?

I ride it all the time. The best production MTB frame I've ridden. Other bikes I had from that era include a 1993 Bianchi Grizzly and a 1991 Trek 990, but found the IBOC tops.

Oh, and better than the KHS, as well, in my opinion.

Nice, my leg is broken right now, but if it is still around before I finish this project I'll have to def. ride it again and compare it to much more expensive Gary Fish HiFi Deluxe... It has been a while since Ive been on a full ridgid...

Well after only 2 days, our first donation arrived. Some gave us a pair of new tires and tubes. So far the project has been well accepted, but their is still a lot of work to do. Come on, I know you garage junkies have some extra stuff just laying around? Anything is appreciated!

Thanks again for all the support!

Well i just wanted to post an update...

After the tires and tubes it seemed like members of this and other forums realized the project was legit. I received in the mail a WTB saddle and a pair of Azonic Flat pedals. Both will be great addition to this project bike. I have included a write up and thank you along with some pictures here:

Thanks for all the support.
