Affordable Wheelset
 

I have a fairly new specialized rockhopper base model (not disc). I'm looking to upgrade the wheels, but I don't want to spend more than $250 or so. I screwed the front wheel taking a dive off of a bridge. I could just get it trued, but it may be a good excuse for an upgrade.

Second question, will I notice much difference. I mainly do some aggressive cross country, and some light jumping.

I'm a cheap *******, so I've been riding on these approx $100 LX/Sun wheels for a few years (I never do any big hit jumps, though) http://www.pricepoint.com/detail/132...-Lite-Rims.htm

mavic rims laced to w/e hubs you like, if 300 is your budget your prolly lookin at deore, either way get a disc compatable hub so if you ever wanna upgrade to discs you can (your frame should already have disc tabs)

you prolly won't notice much diff in performance, larger weight savings don't start untill idk like 500 mostly it will be a much higher quality, and be much more durable (idk whats stock on that bike but i know its not anything special)

or you could get a non-32 spoke wheel somthin like the mavic crossride or crosstrail, this will save much more weight, but if you ever bend a rim you are out an entire wheel, with a 32 spoke wheel if you bend the rim you can just replace it (unless a new wheel is cheeper, rim+labor) depends on how cheep your wheel is

With your stated riding style I wouldn't go for 'light' as a primary specification on a wheelset or you'll be buying another set before yo know it.

Just wanted to add I've been riding with these for 4 years but I don't do drops or aynthing..but they hold up to my 230lb self. And they are on my '01 Diamondback Response.

There must be an equivalent in the US- but these are handbuilt wheels---Well within your price range.

LX hubs to a 317 is the minimum I would suggest but the options are there- and these are Hand Built and top rate wheels.

Who's been taking you to the cleaners??? 300 bones will get the OP a great set of hand-built wheels with at least XT level hubs.

right i forgot you can still get xt in a 6 bolt, shimanos site only shows it in centerlock

Well let's see...XT x317 wheelset for $314...or XT/Rhyno Lite XL/ DT comp for $250...tough choice sir, but for the OP's bridge-dropping style...I'd stick with my recommendation.
