Need your advice on buying a 07 Trek fuel ex 7

I'm new to this forum and somewhat to mountain biking. I have been looking at buying a used Trek mountain bike for a few months now. I have been borrowing a friends extra bike to ride and it's time to buy my own. I was planning on buying a used one to keep the price down. I have narrowed it down to a Trek Fuel ( 80, 90, ex6, ex7, etc.) Probably something a few years old. I want to find something for around $700-$800. I haven't been too successful yet. I went into a local Trek shop and talked to the owner about the size I need and what to look for in a used bike. As I was leaving he asked how serious I was about buying. I said I wanted to find something within month or so. He went in the back and came back out and said he wanted to check what his cost was on an 07 fuel ex7 they had in stock. It was listed "on sale" for $1400. He said he needed to move some bikes and would sell it for $1100. That sounds like a great deal on a brand new bike. It is more than I want to spend, but for $300 more than what I was going to spend on a used bike, I now get a brand new bike. I'm wondering what you guys think? Would you buy it? Is the ex7 a good bike? I would appreciate and thoughts you might have. Thanks. Scott

If that is it, I think it's a great bike to start. $1100? Only you can really say if it's worth it or not. For $300 extra, it's not bad at all.

i bought an 06 fuel ex7 a year ago for around 1000 and it was used .. the 07 has more travel .. I'd jump on it.. just budget in some tires and a seat.

tires and saddle are kind of personal preference items .. the bontranger tires I didn't like and the bontranger seat wasn't comfortable at all to me.
