Quote: Word came through that Brent Thompson, the man behind the Bootleg Canyon trails, passed away. Thoughts go out to those close to him and I can’t express how fun his trails were this past week at the race. Go visit Bootleg and see the legacy he left for all of us on two wheels! Thanks Brent!
Another big void has been created. RIP.

Seven years ago a group of us in northern VT were looking for a place to escape the winter and do some riding. We found a place in Boulder City NV called Bootleg Canyon that looked fun and when I called the # on the website I got Brent's personal cell. He told us to ship our bikes to his house and when we got there he treated us like family. We sat and joked and smoked with Brent in his kitchen in the same place that many of the biggest names in mountain biking had been. Ive returned there every year since then to ride the incredible trails that he created and he was unwavering in his friendship and hospitality, he invited 4 of us and a dog and a baby to stay there a week this last trip. I wish that I had been able to convince him to visit in VT but Im glad that in November I got a chance to see him one last time. I grew to love this man who embodied everything I love about the mountain bike community. We lost a legend yesterday.
