shimano deore q factor
hello everyone. i'm new to this forum and need a little help
i'm building a bike out of bamboo and need to know the q factor of the shimano deore crankset so as to overcome any possible overlap with the chainstays.
does anybody know the exact q factor of this crankset. i refering to the shimano deore m532 model name.
if someone has this crankset and would be willing to measure it (carefully and accurately please) it would be much appreciated.
thank you

I've got a set of m542s on my bike i could measure for you when i get home (late tonight) if you think it will be the same q factor as the 532, is the 532 an isis style BB? (mine is external so if yours isn't...)

I'm sorry - - I looked EVERYWHERE I could think of and could find no published Q-factor specs for the M532. Seems to be a detail Shimano keeps close to their vest - - dunno why on earth. FSA puts it right in their spec list on their cranks.

Should be more in the 170-175mm range.

uh thats crankarm length, and the numbers I listed are model numbers, deore M532, or M542, not measurments
and for the op, I just measured the q factor on my M542s it was 150mm, i used calipers so should be pretty accurate, especially since i got such a nice round number, i didn't round that off or anything. Oh and i measured from inside the inside faces of the crankarms, by the pedal threads, idk if it was sposed to be outside to outside but this seemed to make more sense to me

I took that inference from the fact that the M532 is an external-cup crankset and so might be very similar to FSA X-type crank Q-factors, which seem to run from 169-175 depending on whether they are ISIS or X-types. That also squares with the spindle lengths you would see for an external-cup BB.
