Too bad you suck at replying on time, im over what everyone said and I'm having my local bike shop assemble it. If you want to be good at being a jerk, start with something smaller than the web loser.

Like another poster said here the guys here are serious MTB'ers and know their stuff. They are trying to help but you need to know them a bit and get to know them and how they talk here. ope your new bike works out for you as I am sure you are too. Enjoy the ride.

P.S. My standing as a jerk is well documented. I am hardly concerned with your opinion.

I think the problem is, one too many people decided that they had to tell the OP to "calm down". If a room full of people starts telling you to calm down, and you calm down, but they still keep telling you to calm down, you're going to be annoyed. So thanks all for piling on the OP more than he deserved.

GoGreen, I'm not gonna pile on with the crass posters here and say your bike is crap. However, you paid $190 for it, and it "is what it is". I'd be interested to hear how well it performs for you if you ride it a few hundred miles. Hopefully it will be something that you can ride for years. If you use it and like it, then its not junk!

I'm guessing everyone on these forums is the higher class of Americans. Even when I was younger I have been getting mountain bikes that weren't very expensive and never had any problems my entire life. Then I show this bike which would be in the same category and everyone bashes it. I'm not into jumping from cliff to cliff, I just need a bike that can handle some nice trails and still get me everywhere.
Heres a picture from a local trail near my house. This is the kind of stuff I usually ride on. (This is around Blue Knob State Park).
I don't really care what anyone says about it being junk. I'm not loaded with cash, and on top of that, do you honest to god stare at someones bike frame as they ride down the street? Unless it has a bunch of crap like bags and stuff hanging off it, I never even glance at it. The only time I'll buy a mountain bike for $500 is if its loaded with a gps, lined with diamonds, and can fight a war for an entire country, until then, spending $500 just to go on mediocre trails is pretty ret@rded considering I have to work more than I'm able to have free time and bike.
Also, what does everyone mean by a heavy seat post? Is everyone riding their bike around while trying to hold their seat up with 1 arm? If you sitting on the bike, its not going to be light anyways. As for that quote from another forum saying it looks like a fat chick. How? To me that looks like an average bike anyone would ride on a trail. Everyone in these forums, needs to stop being so bashful of newcomers.

Hey man, I believe I've ridden that Rails-to-Trails path in Pennsylvania.
I got family up there in Brackenridge, PA, and we rode that several times.
You will do just fine

I think you've got the right idea. Do what you gotta do. As far as the all wheel drive bikes, probably pretty heavy and more of a gimick than anything, but I have no first hand experience.

Oh and, I'll add my bit. When I get out of college in about 2 years (yeah were on the same boat), I'll step up from my $180 Schwinn to a Specialized Rockhopper. I'll keep my Schwinn though, I love that thing.

The reason I paid $190 is because the place selling it had it from another company with a back stock of them. To me, I thought that was a good deal, I have taken it to a bike shop and they said it was pretty nice for the terrain around my region and great for the roads. He also told me that, regardless of the bike you buy, everyone will try to steal something off it if its not properly locked up. So with that had been said, I'm pretty glad that until my next 2 years of college are over in this high crime town, I'll be riding something to get me around and if it gets stolen i'm not out my entire tax return. Now once I get out of college, I'm probably going to lean towards a Cannondale and move out west towards the rockies where I can get good use out of it. Also, does anyone know if those all wheel drive bikes are a good investment?
What I said earlier about the seat and stem are just that those two little parts can make all the difference in whether the bike fits you well and you can put serious miles on it without pain. A good fit makes all the difference in the world, and a bad fit is one reason there's so many cheap bikes on the market with 90% of their tire tread left.
Sounds like you have a good plan, and glad to hear you had the bike shop look at it.

[QUOTE=BenLi;8446533]If you're going to be riding trails with it, at the very least, get a LBS to inspect and check all the nuts and bolts.
or perhaps a better idea would be to piss the local bike shop owner off by buying one of their books on mountain bike maintenance by leanard zinn and learn how, with the help of a few tools you could fix your own bike rather than bringing every flat tire into the lbs like they would love to have you do.
oh and by the way if you shop online for your parts you could save about 1/2 price on most of the parts the lbs sells. check out pricepoint.com wheelworld.com icycles.com and others for some great prices on the parts you'll need if you start tearing your bike up. A little word of warning though don't tell your bike shop guy that you buy online unless you really do want to piss him off and if he is a nice guy, not a liar or a cheat, then you may want to consider buying some of your parts from his shop ocasionally just to help them stay in business. I know I've just pissed off some of you guys that work at bike shops but I'm just trying to save a poor guy some money and besides you would probably prefer customers with more cash in your store anyways.

[QUOTE=bike too long!;8457964]
geez- that's some rant. I don't work at a bike shop, though I do my own mechanical stuff, down to building my own wheels on occasion. I know how to do most of the stuff because the guys at my lbs showed me. When I have a "fit" issue there's really no where else to go, and there'd be a whole lot less riding going on if they weren't around. In my town they're nice guys, and I always check with them first when I need a part - sometimes they do have good prices, and they're less likely to sell the "wrong stuff cheap" than certain bargain outlets I can think of. Lighten up!

Ride your bike and get as much out of it as you can.
Bikes are fun.
That said, once you know what to look for and where to look, you will be surprised at how much more bike for the money you can get with a used (but formerly higher-end) mtb.

Eh, I'm positive I'll like it, anyways. Ill get a new seat and water bottle at most. I honestly don't really know a lot about bikes, so really the seat post thing to me is nothing. If its crap, then I'm not going to take a hammer or something and start whacking at it. I just need a decent bike to get me around places like the Abandoned PA Turnpike, Bellwood Bike Trail, and a couple other places. Other than that, I'll buy some gel gloves because I know what its like to go down an extremely rocky hill really fast, your forearms get so itchy its almost to the point its unbearable. However, once I get the bike. I'll have my local bike shop put it together and make sure everything is in order.
The bike the pike trails are fun. did a few miles on the road section yesterday on the cross bike. Bellwood can be fun to. Hope you enjoy it
