Oppinions on IBEX
I'm out in the boonies, about a hour drive into Salem Oregon. I could get a ride into town where there is a bike shop to buy a bike but I'm not all too interested in the trouble. I'm a bigtime mail-order shopper and to be honest it really sucks Specialized refuses to do business outside of retailers/bike shops.
I really do want a Specialized, I've read in these forums that the Hardrock pro is a very good entry level bike. But I don't want a used one from Ebay or whatever and I can't find anyone that sells Specialized online or through the mail etc. So, I happened across the web site for IBEX bikes (www.ibexbikes.com) and am thinking about buying their Alpine 550. What do you all think? Should I go with an IBEX for the convenience of it being brought to my doorstep or should I mow the neighbors lawn for a ride into the city to buy a Hardrock at a shop? |
Get the hardrock...

You really need to sit on bikes and try them out since its such a personalized thing. Also, I too would suggest the Hardrock.

the ibex is not a bad bike but make sure you like it's geometry by checking the spec's.

IBEX- Increbibly Bad Service
Big question as to correct sizing on-line Exasperating paint finish X-tremely desperate choice. Sit, try, ride, run from IBEX. |
i ride the hardrock xc version, it doesnt have discs like the pro version, but ive been told that the discs on bike in that price range anret good anyways...i love my hardrock though, its 17" and its pretty solid, rides nice...componentry isnt the best, but who cares for an entry lvl bike. try to test ride it first tho

I've had my Ibex for almost 4 mths, and have had nothing but good experence, from the bike and jack at ibex. I've received great service and rec the bikes. also you do have a 1 month free ride, if you dont like it for any reason ship it back no questions asked, you're only out the shipping, ride a bike a month for 30 bucks not bad..
seems to be a lot of nay sayers, that dont have any experence with the bikes. they have an 800 # call talk to Jack and see for yourself how he treats you and answers any questions. quickkarl |
also the paint on mine is great, get lots of compliments on bike in general, disc brakes are smooth and strong.

Robert, you phoned IBEX yesterday to try to return (exchange?) a bike well past our 30-day satisfaction guarantee. Our policy is clearly stated on our website (www.ibexbikes.com). The fact that you threatened to go on the Internet and trash IBEX if we didn't comply with your request only sealed-the-deal. We do not respond to threats. You were in the wrong and tried to use blackmail as the mitigating factor to force us to your will. So, here you are trashing IBEX... not because of any of the reasons you stated in your post... merely for childish retribution.
I can tell you other folks that IBEX makes excellent bikes. We offer, perhaps, the best customer service response of anyone out there and we have extremely favorable pricing because we sell directly from manufacturer to consumer. Our warranty (including lifetime coverage to the original owner on the frame ) and 30-day return policies are there for both your protection and ours. I think any reasonable person would agree that 30-days is quite adequate to determine if you are happy with your purchase. As with any manufacturer, terms for both the warranty and satisfaction guarantee are clearly stated up-front and it is not unreasonable to ask that our customers adhere to the stated terms any more than you, as a customer, should be able to rely on us to hold up our end of the bargain. Regards, Jack A. IBEX Bicycles |
Jack I hear you like to post replies in bike forums and harrass people who don't like your product. And even post personal information from unstatisfied customers.
I also here your bikes are made in China have cheap welds and market your bikes to un-informed newbies who know little to nothing about bikes. I hear you also pay to have your bikes rated at the review sites. |
You do know this was 3 years ago?
|
sounds like an IBEX marketing ploy....they like their name flooding every bike forums.......something needs to be done...its really annoying...

What is IMPORTANT is bike fit and thats where your LBS will be important, especially for a newer rider. Bikes are like shoes, they all have their own feel and fit. RIde as many different bikes as you can and you will find your answer. That said, Ibex does indeed make some excellent quality stuff. At one point, I believe they did sponsor (and may still do) riders...something you wont find with bikesdirect (and no 30 day return either). Good luck and let us know what you find. |
