Newbie Maintenance Question
Hi All,
I have been mountain biking two years and love it. When i purchased the bike i received two year maintenance deal as part of the package. Therefore, i have not done much of the maintenance myself. I attacked the chain yesterday. Used Rock and Roll lubricant (nice product) and it was relatively easy process...i would say under 15 minutes. However, in so doing, i noticed that my other parts were pretty grimey and cleaned the best i could with a rag...but still feel insufficient. So...
Can any of you recommend a good degreaser that will not hurt parts such a derailers and such. I have researched simple green, Predros citrus and shimino's degreaser. Anyone use any of these or another and have recommendations. From initial researcher shimano degreaser seems to have the most satisfied customers. Also, is there any parts i do not want to apply degreaser straight to? Once you used degreaser are there certain areas i should go in with a specific type of lube and lube...and if so any recommendations on the lube. Think i am going to stay with RnR chain lube for a bit...chain looks good after using it.
I would appreciate any input here. Ran a search on forums but sporadic and un-informative results. I know I know, if your going to get into you should have learned maintenance as vital part...but figured i got two years free maintenance why rush...having to much fun riding. Again, would appreciate any recommendations, advice or insight any of you could provide...thanks.

I have a very simple cleaning plan for my whole bike.
Squirt it all with a hose. Squirt it all with muck off. Squirt it all with a hose. Regrease as nessicary.
Seems to be working so far, occasionally need to get they brush out but not much.

I used Pedro's Degreaser, just coated the chain, cassette, chainwheels and the cogs on the derailleur, rinsed off with hose, and re-lubed said parts with chain lube.
I only get that much into it after a wet/muddy ride, or if I can see/feel the grime.
