weak frames
i was looking at getting a diamondback vectra sport but i was wondering whether
the frames were weakened by the way that they are made
eg, the tubes go from fat to thin where they meet the seat post tube
will they be weak or should they hold up fine?

They should be fine, the tubes are manipulated in that fashion to INCREASE the strength. Depending on what section of tubing, the relative forces are counter acted by shaping the tubes into shapes that provide the greatest strength to those implied forces.
e.g. a lot of bikes have downtubes that are flatened up and down (flat oval) to provide strength from side forces imposed by the cranks. At the head tube, the oval is vertical.
