Tires

Hey!

Knowing that I have a not-so-good bike I'm expecting that the bike doesn't have good tires. Well since I live in a condo with plenty of security gaurds I have to park my bike in my locker and and ride throught he parking lot, going down 3 levels. Well, one day I was going quite quickly and a car came into view. With my slow but well-placed reflexes, I power slided to the side and looked at my tires. Well first of all that was my first power slide ever. Then I realised my tires were peeling. Do good tires peel a lot? In this situation I was going down a 35-40 degree angle at about 30kmph and powerslided to the left. Would that cause a lot of peeling?

On pavement, yes! Even great tires will peel when skidding on pavement. Actually better tires will probably peel more. Cheap tires have hard rubber compounds that do not provide a lot of traction. Better tires will actually have softer rubber to provide better traction (more give) and will not last as long.

Haha...if I ride bald tires I would die on my trails. If anyone needs tires I have 50% wear tires I will gladly give away. I don't know how anyone can ride with balds on technical trails. (on that note I have used them for djing or urban built wheels.

And a2 is right. Good tires tend to wear fast due to the higher quality sticky compound. Sounds funny but it is true. High quality tires aren't to hook up....not last forever...

"if it aint bald keep ridin it."

If my tires fall below 60% tread, I'd die trying to ride them. Hooligan, who knows maybe if you had higher quality tires you would have not even done a powerslide, could have been more of a controlled panic stop. But as far as "peeling" I've ripped knobbies and peeled brand new $50 tires on the first ride.

All I say is gotta pay to play ;)

But Im poor!!

Anyways maelstrom, I will gladly take your tires. If you have paypal and you live somewhere close and theres a reasonable shipping fee (if any) I can and will pay. By the way, all 26 inch tires should fit 26 inch rims right? Should your tires fit a department stroe bike? PM if you need details.

Well next time I have some I will ship them to you. We can arrange something next time it comes up. I have a couple that are close to ready to go for me.

Warning these are not xc tires. 2.5 and up.

All I ever ride for xc is semi slick/slick tires. I guess you have to be as good as I am to be able to do that though.

Slicks for downhill. Not for the ride, for the sheer panic.

My rear tire is bald as all hell. But I still have side knobbies. These have turned out to be good street and 4X tires now. They do well in a straight line turn well with the knobs.

yes I do have a good rear tire but am not going to use it full time til my "homemade semi-slick" dies.

2.5 inches...would that mean any rims or fork would take that? More specifically, Mine?

Maelstrom 05-14-04 10:03 AM

It would ride slower. Depends on the fork but it may not fit. It should not be affected by your rim.
