Just wanted to share today's ride with everyone. The youngest, ***** age 10, and I set out to ride the single track from Rainbow Falls to Cockeran Falls on the Missouri River. Its not really mountainous, but the deep coulees make for some pretty fun riding.

This is looking down streem.

The nice thing about this trail is that is that it is at the end of the local paved trail system on the east end of town. Perhaps not what most folks think about when you say "Mountain Biking", but sure is a fun trail to ride.

This is Cockeran Dam. One of several hydroelectric dams along this area of the Missouri River. On certian weekend days, the dam is open to cross and there is single track on the north shore as well.

Nice pics N7

I was watching a show on the history channel last night about Lewis and Clark. It had me thinking if you had some pics of the Missouri River. You are probably riding on the same ground that Lewis and Clark stepped foot on.

If you keep making *****, ride up those steep hills. One day he'll be the one taking pictures of you trying to catch up. :D

Tell your son, "Atta Boy!" for me. It's great to see kids on bikes riding with their dads.

Actually, on this trail, we pass through "Whitmore(sp) Ravine" which as I understand is a camp location of the Corps of Discovery. This part of the state is where the Corps documented their "PORTAGE" around the "GREAT FALLS of the Missouri." My commute route into town is right along the river. The Corps explored all over this area.

***** is such a trooper. He loves to be on the bike with me. This was our first trip out this year on the MTB of any distance. He is bugging me to get him a road bike now too! He wants to race, but sadly there are no organized races for kids here. Oh, he is a natural stoker on our tandem as well.

Yep, I'll do that! He often reads the forums with me. Thanks.

We are getting a different bike for him to try this week. That little 7 speed thing just ain't gonna cut it. :D

Thanks guys.
