Y50
 

Just bought a 97 Y50:

Anyways, I was originally looking for a y-33 but this one came along and was so loaded with carbon and XTR I couldn't refuse it! The thing is that I cannot find that much info about the Y50's??? Can anyone give me some good input on these, history, biography, any info at all would be greatly appreciated. I have to cool down my wallet somehow right?

I'll just let you know straight up, you may be dissapointed by what you hear about the Y-50.
The particular suspension design the Y-50 has has been outdated for several years. Most mountain bikers didn't like it because of the pedal induced bobbing, most noticeable on climbs. I'm not sure about the carbon fiber part. I know that for awhile carbon fiber didn't live up to it's "lighter, stronger" name.
However, looking at the picture on ebay, it appears the previous owner took good care of it, and it is equipped with good parts.

I have heard about the bobbing problem but I figured the lockout would solve that when (if) it became a problem. Thanks for your info though, I do appreciate it.

P.S. It may be outdated but it still looks better then just about any full suspension bike out there, YES EVEN TODAY!:D

I didn't check for lockout. That will probably be a nice feature. You may not even be bothered by the bobbing.
Congrats on your buy, I'm glad you got a cool bike that you like. It's super coolio to get a good bike.

The only difference between the Y-33 and the Y-50 were the components and color. The frames are identical minus the paint. I can't remember which model, but there is one of that era that has a natural finish!

This frame was similar in design to the Gary Fisher Full Suspn at the time. I had a GF Z-1 and enjoyed the heck out of it! Mine came with a lock-out and I never used the thing!

Granted, I'm not an expert class racer, nor did I ever race the bike, so a little pedal induced bobbing never affected me.

If you're into Carbon and want a nice set of brand new still in box never been mounted Spinergy 4 spoke wheels let me know! They'd go great with that bike!
