SuperV owners: Disc upgrading
I'm quite green with getting back into the sport and recently picked up a used SuperV1000. Has V-Brakes, but would like to upgrade the brakes to discs. Looks to my eye that the rear subframe has mounts for this, though I can't tell if the stock HeadShok FattyD fork does or not. Are special hubs necessary as well? If so, what are some things I should look for.
Thanks for the help. |
Yes you need hubs that will accept disc rotors. I'm not familiar with the fork. Post a picture so we can see or maybe someone else knows.
On another note rim brakes often work great and unless you live in an uber wet climate or just like to spend money. I'd be hesitant to upgrade. It will cost between 60 to 100 for decent brake calipers, another 60 or more for hubs, and then you have new housing and cables for 20. If you have to get another fork forget it. BTW this is off course assuming you can do all the work yourself. |
You may end up needing to try to dig up some old Coda disc brakes.
1. post a picture 2. measure the eye to eye of the disc caliper mounts on the frame fork in mm |
