Jamis Dakar XCT

I've been looking at the Jamis' bikes and I came across the XCT series and they sound like the perfect bike for me. Now bear with me because I am a newb. But they have three different models and I know that they vary based on parts. The XCT 1 is so much more of a possibility for me to buy than the other two models. IT runs at about $1775 new while the other two run at $2325(XCT 2) and $3050(XCT 3). So I guess my question is if I consider the XCT 1 is the mower cost going to hurt me in its performance. Like are the parts not worthy or is it worth paying a little extra for the other models for slightly better parts? Like I said...newb

IMO

No the part spec on the XCT 1 is not going to hurt performance at all. Deore is nice stuff and I hear nothing but good things about SLX. The Tora fork gets pretty good reviews too and it is nice that it is the Solo air version.
The 2 things that to me are drawbacks on that bike are the wheelset and the crankset. The crank is an easy upgrade if you think you need them or when the ISIS BB wears out. The rims might not be as study as some but I would just ride them until they were thrashed and upgrade.
Over all the upgrades on the XCT 2 are not worth 450 bucks to me. I did just notice that the 2 has a 15mm through axle fork and that is a pretty nice thing to have but still not enough for me to jump ship.

*They have really good deals on Shimano external BB cranks on ebay. Something like 70 bucks.
