seeking input - bike comparison !!!!

Hey all,

Avid mountain biker here looking for some input / opinions on a new hardtail.

Live in Ontario so the riding I do is mainly singletrack, technical, steep but short uphills / downhills, XC, with a little bit of woodwork and jumping. Would like to get into a bit of recreational racing but nothing too serious yet. Have riden the same Schwinn Mesa GSX for 8 years and I think I owe it to myself for an upgrade.

Budget is $1000 to $1500

Currently considering:

Kona Caldera (pretty sure the Hoss would be too heavy for what I am looking for?)
Trek 6700
Specialized Rockhopper Pro (I think the Stumpjumper is a bit out of my price range)
Giant XTC 0
Rocky Mountain Trailhead

These bikes all have similar components (Deore on the front, XT or X-9 on the back, hydraulic discs).

Thoughts? Suggestions for other bikes? Or good resources for bike comparisons?

Thanks!

If you are buying right now, you may be able to get an 08 stumpy not too far outside of your price range. Especially if you are willing to buy a demo bike. (If that is what you want)

Real advice? nah.
