Genesis Geometry
 

I rode a GF with the Genesis Geometry this morning. It was different, but I kinda liked it. My thinking is... If you get a shorter stem. Mine is currently 80mm, maybe like a 60 or so, and a seatpost with more setback, it would move your knee over toe position back a little, basically replicating the seat tube angle on the genesis bikes. Am I totally off on this? I know this wouldn't make a difference on my jump but on my HT XC it would (older GF mamba,) moving my weight back a little.

I did a short ride on the Hoo Koo E Koo, and felt a difference in control on some short, but steep downhills, and climbing in the saddle on the steeper climbs felt more stable.

Is that the thinking behind the G2 geo?

if my memory serves, genisis geo had the short stem, normally that would really throw off your handling so to compensate for that they slacken up the head tube angle, so the combined slack head tube and short stem make you feel like you arn't going to go over the bars on steep parts (or keep you from going over the bars idk how it works) basically just like on a dh bike if your body is back further from the front wheel...

so in short if you just get a super short stem your handling will get all twitchy, unless i'm completely off, go look up some geo tables and see what the head tube angle is

I just bought couple weeks ago a 2009 GF Superfly 29, my old bike was a 2001 S works 26 an all i can tell you is that i never ever back again to 26 mtb and G2 geometry for me is so comfortable, the position of the ride is different if you see a bike on a side angle you can see clearly that the level of the saddle and handlebar is almost the same height that help me a lot with some low back pain i had, Superfly it´s an expensive bike but you pay of what you get, one of the best mtb on the market today they also offer the Paragon is half price, an excellent bike to.

I did a little reading up on the Fisher web site (http://www.fisherbikes.com/bike/series/hifi/tech/); and first of all, are you talking the original Genesis geo or G2? Looks like G2 was specifically to quicken steering without affecting high-speed handling traits. They accomplished that by increasing the trail through fork crown offset. They actually special-order forks from RS and Fox with different-offset crowns.

Now, as far as the Genesis geo (shortened chainstays, lengthened TT, shorter stem, etc. - http://www.fisherbikes.com/bike/series/genesis/tech/), you probably could replicate some of those traits in the way you surmise. But there are going to be other factors affecting the handling that won't be able to be replicated - - the shortened stays and their relation to your feet/the crank and cockpit weighting when standing (like when decending in rough terrain, once again because of the crank-to-rear-axle relationship). Does that make sense?


BTW, I always figured at my height and torso length that the Genesis geo would suit me well and I've been intrigued by it.

+1 about the twitchy steering on an XC bike that you are thinking of retrofitting with a shorter stem. You'll pop up on climbs, also. Maybe wrong, just seems like it to me.
