hi everyone. i started mtb biking about a month ago and want to do freeriding. i looked at the bikes and was blown away at the prices. i want a good bike at an even better price. recomendations?

here are some bikes i looked at. by freeride i dont mean super extreme mainly parks and trails with a little technical. but lots of jumping. heres what i like tell me if there good or bad.

try something used if you want a full suspension.. the trek liquids are usually cheap used. or you can get an aggressive hardtail like a marin b17 for a steal sometimes.. (link below is overpriced)

You might want to look into a freeride hardtail. That DB is not gonna hold up well if you start beating on it.The fork is a POS fer sure,Promax mech disk are very suspect,Tuff shock**********?? What the heck is that?
You'll get a better part spec on a hardtail.

I really want a marin b17 now. but I never jump stuff so it kind of defeats the purpose.. I could buy one and seinfeld it and be happy though

Look at the cannondale line. They aren't bad. I don't ride park, but I ride dirt trails and jump fine with a 50mm travel fork and a nice 26'' hard tail.

Chase 3 doesn't look bad [not to mention the bb5's] and at that price you can afford to upgrade any lower quality parts for ones of higher quality, lower weight, etc.

i decided after my trip to the freeride park im only going to be doing little jumps. so its more a trail with lots of technical stuff bike than a freeride bike.should i go lighter or just be ready to upgrade some parts?would that chase 3 be good for trail riding aswell? i like that one.

I use my Komodo for trail riding...it's suite well for it.

I think the Chase depends on your height. It's more of a Jump Bike...as is the Mongoose that I posted a link to. You really need to have a long enough top tube so you're not cramped on the climbs...and a long enough seat tube so you get decent leg extension for pedaling.

I'd look more into a Jamis Komodo, (Or Trail X if you're not gonna jump much)...or the Specialized Hardrock line.

its down to these 4 bikes. for trailriding with technical and jumping. wich one is the best?
i like the hardrock and the chase 3.

The Myka is the women's version of the Rockhopper. Probably not what you're looking for.

The Chase looks a little more DJ oriented. I'm sure you *could* ride it on trails, but it wouldn't be my first choice.

The Hardrock will be great for trail riding, and they're supposed to be fairly burly bikes that will put up with some punishment. I liked the look of the older design better...it looked more durable, and the new design's top tube looks like it would decrease standover, but I've ridden neither, so take that for what it's worth.

Assuming it fit me, I'd go Komodo. The geometry looks pretty good for jumping, but if chelboed is any indication, it works fine for trail riding too.

Something else to possibly think about...you looking for freeriding or jumping? Freeride bikes often have a good amount of travel, while jumping bikes do not. For example, the Chase has 80mm, and the Komodo has 130mm.

Get the Hardrock in Orange....... it has decent components but the fork is one big turd.I had a good fork lying around and just needed something to put it on. I have a 6" fork on mine and it works well for what I do with it.Plus it looks sweet witha good fork on it....and we know thats all that really matters.

I simply suggested the chase 3 because he initially said jumping too. But since he has changed his mind, that no longer works as well.

well this is going to be my jumping bike. my gt cannodale i have now is fine for trailriding.
the reason i want it to also do trail is so my brother and freinds can ride with me.

We sell a TON of the Brass. Nicely made entry level bike. Very few issues with them. Just ride whatever bike you buy within your and the bikes ability. Even a badass freeride bike and fail if the rider pushes himself to hard.

Think badass bike, sloppy rider, sloppy landings and all goes out the window, fast

trailrider1 just admit your not going to jump anything and buy an XC bike.. it'll save us all some time.
