Degreaser?

Degreaser, ok for rotors cleaning rotors, or not. I know alcohol works well, but I'm not sure where it is, and if I wait until tomorrow, I'll forget.

If you've got nothing else, and it's an emergency... and you don't mind taking the wheel or caliper off (you don't want to get the stuff in your caliper or pads).

I'd scrub the rotors with "Jiff" (bathroom cleanser) and an old toothbrush. Rinse well with plenty of water. Don't touch the contact surfaces and if you must wipe it make sure it's a clean oil-free rag.

Would acetone work better?

Pocko 06-11-09 09:20 PM

Can't harm it, but don't use the one for nail polish remover because some brands have oils and fragrances mixed in to keep wife's fingers nice and soft.

If you have commercial acetone, go for it.

I just use some alcohol that I have laying around in the bathroom...but honestly, I've only cleaned a rotor a few times in my early days of bleeding Juicy's.

Never cleaned my Elixir rotors, Code5 rotors, or J5's (the last year or two).

Yeah, i dont think its a huge issue because I wont be riding for a week or so (how the heck do you take half a link out with out having a half link chain??).

ed 06-11-09 09:28 PM

You don't.

Edit: I guess if you held your mouth right and had the utmost patience...you could bend and measure, grind and press a set of outer link plates inward and attach them to the next link with a roller in the middle...but you'd still be lacking the lip on the inside that the roller rides on. It'd be ghetto and tear something up in the end.

Half links are cheap.

I know half links are cheap, and hey look crazy amazing, but I cant find anywhere around here so I'd have to order one. I think I'll just wait.

why do you need to clean them? can't you just wait until you pressure wash the rest of the bike?
