V Brake help needed?
Are Shimano V brakes, moder BR-M510 interchangeable, or specific to the front or rear of the bike? If they are specific to the front or rear, how are the front and rear brake identified?
Thanks, Uni |
when i order them, they make me order a front and rear specific unit. when i get 'em, i open the one that says "front" on the box, and put it up front. then, i take the one in the box labeled "rear" and put it out back. I'll bet there's something on the arms, but to be honest, i don't have one in front of me. There's no extremely obvious difference.
Some avid v-brakes are interchangeable; others aren't. Quite frankly, i don't get it. I just do as i'm told. -rob |
they sell em as front and rear, but really its only the direction tha pads are facing, (and idk if the rear comes with the additional long noodle)
so if u need to put fronts on the rear, just swap the pads from left to right i think the front and rear specific thing w/o telling you why or how to switch em around is to try and make it idiot proof, imagine if the directions said "in order to convert to rear brake flip pads" |
I've ordered a rear and gotten a front instead since the rears were out of stock. The only difference seems to be which arm each pad is on, as s noted.
