How many Mountain Bikers are using GPS and what are your favorites?
 

First, I want to let you know that I'm a business owner selling handheld GPS systems of outdoor enthusiasts, such as yourselves. That being said, can anyone give me a rough idea of how many people that actively participate in mountain biking are using GPS systems on their bikes?

For those of you that do, what are your favorite GPS systems (and if there's a must-have accessory, I'd love to know).

I use a Garmin Edge 205. I also have some cool apps on my I-Phone that do the same thing

Thanks, Hot Rod. How good are the apps for the iPhone? I haven't had a chance to look into them, but I suspect the GPS apps are pretty good - do they have the same basic (at least important) features as your Edge 205?

Edge 705, but it needs a temperature sensor.

It's probably the most compatible GPS system, which is important since I use a Mac, and don't use Garmin's software.

I like to be able to come home, and download my rides with all the data. I also use it for training on my road bike, and commuting.

I always carry my Colorado 400t while mountain biking. It does need to have attachment capability for a lanyard as a safety strap. Best accessories are handlebar mount and cadence sensor along with Mapsource. Have no clue how many riders use GPSs. I've seen a few others

I have a 305 and have loved it for the past two years. Depending on what you're looking for, the iPhone apps are pretty decent. A friend is using one, and his mileage and elevation are fairly close to the Garmin. It lacks the other features of the Garmin though, such as the training modes, race modes (where you can race yourself from previous rides on the same course or route), HRM, cadence, etc.

I use a Delorme PN-20. I just keep it in my Camelbak and use it to track rides as well as load in points and images, if I'm going somewhere new. I know there's a handlebar mount for it, but I just haven't got one yet.

i've got an etrex legend cx that i got for cheep for hiking and stuff, when i first started mtnbiking i put it on the handlbars, but i soon got worried that i would smash it, also it was hard to read at speed, too much goin on,

I'd prolly never buy a gps for my bike cause of the cost, its like hmm i could get the edge or a new wheelset or fork or somthin

I use a Garmin GPSmap 60 CSX - which is recommended by the Rails to Trails Conservancy for trail mapping.

I like it. It can find 4-6 satellites under our NorthWet jungle canopy. My other machines can't do that. It rides on the handlebars and servers as the odometer, the speedometer, etc. If I like the ride, I upload the track and waypoints to their MapSource program.

My 205 does everything that I need. The I-Phone apps, Trailguru and MotionX do all that it does with the same capabilities. Only thing is that Trailguru has to be on top of other applications to do it's thing. Plus, the fact that I don't have an I-Phone mount for my MTB makes me reluctant to use it for that purpose. I would hate to crash and kill it. I have Garmin mounts on all my bikes and have no problems with them

To all you GPS owners, are any of them good for biking as well as running? I was shopping around for a high end one (HRM, cadence, speedo, etc) that I could use for both, but have been unsuccessful thusfar.

+1 Also agree with the other poster that having temperature would be nice. Most of the road Garmins (Nuvi etc) have a thermometer on board, though not displayed, as part of the diagnostic menu, so you'd think Garmin could put it on the screen?
