How much do mountain bikes weigh?
 

I don't have a mountain bike nor am I planning on getting one.

I was just wondering the average weight of a mountain bike? I ride road bikes and expensive ones can be 18 lbs or lighter. I'm riding an ok one and it's 24 lbs.

22-50 pounds depending on it's purpose. give or take a few pounds.

22 pounds is pretty damn light MTB bike!!, i say around 25 - 26 to be more realistic , otherwise they can be as heavy as they want

22 pounds for a nice lightweight hardtail, my Trek 4300 is 23 pounds, after all of the upgrades.

Yeah I agree with qwhunt23. 22 Pounds is a good lightweight hardtail mountain bike. My Haro is 40 but more of a Freeride/Downhill bike. So probably anywhere from 25-45 pounds.

I saw a 17 pounder on a web page somwhere. looked like you would break it by riding over a pebble but it was still 17 pounds... Single speed I believe, that would help.

and to answer the question: I have seen 19 lb. hardtail XC bikes and 70+ lbs. downhill bikes.

my Kona singlespeed is 22 lbs after a small investment in aftermarket parts! Can't go any lighter though >:(

You can start drilling speedholes.

Ive seen frames that look like swiss chesse after multiple speedholes.

Back in the 1980s, a guy built a touring MTB, capable of hauling campoing loads off-road, and that weighed in at 22lbs.
I think most MTBs are built for the worst-case scenario, ie over-weight newbie riders with little skill, riding extreme jumps. If you are lighter, can ride well and avoid Kamikaze descents and Big Air, you can ride much lighter bikes.

My mtb weighs in at 35lbs right now. Im sure I could make it lighter but I like it the way it is right now.

Thats extreme. I think this guy has gone over the edge.

Most entry level MTN bikes(specialized hardrock, trek 4300, GT avalanche 3.0 etc) weigh in around 30 lbs.

Don't forget the need for loads of cash. With enough money just about anything can be done.

My Hardrock weighs in at about 27lbs now.

I see 60+ downhill bikes all the time. Some Downhill forks weigh in at around 10 lbs. Insane I tell you.

My downhill bike weighs 420 poinds and my xc bike weighs 69 pounds.

My road bike weighs 666 pounds.

While I don't see them all the time. With a BMW and a Monster T and then all steel parts...it is feasible.
