got arrested
I never knew you can end up in a squad car for driving with out lights and for reckless driving........ on a bike, on my way back from a dirt jumping session i rode up a street, turned a corner fast, 2 couples hugging and saying good bye to each other so i went around them, i hit the brakes hard and my back wheel skidded onto the street, with a parked car in front of me 10 feet up, behind him is a cop, guess his partner took his donut so he was mad, saw us and gave us hell, But I got lucky and they were called with reports of reckless driving so the let me go after I was in the back of their car getting a 10 min lecture. Felt like one of those assembly's in my school. Just thought id share

Thats pretty messed up. But I am curios, if you don't mind me asking, just how old are you? Reason I ask is because if you are in your teens or a bit younger. They where more than likely bored, and just having fun,to try to get you to crap your pants.

Im 15, But it's gunna take more than that to make me crap myself. But on a serious note they said " if we catch you again your coming down to the station with us". Im not gunna put lights on my dirt jumper, I sort of want them to catch me, see what their gunna do. What are they going to do, put me in their mini jail cells or whatever they got, id wanna see a judges face for me showing up in a court room for reckless driving and driving without lights on a bike , I wouldn't crap myself, id piss myself from laughter their, lol. That would make my day

New Hampshire vehicle code says bikes need a red reflector or light on the rear and a white reflector or light on the front for night riding. It isn't necessary to have a light. It may be the same law in your area.

Be careful, next time they probably won't put you in the back of the car, they will just give you a few 40 dollar tickets and tack on 150 in court fees...

According to the Highway Code, in Britain you have to have white front and red rear lights at night, as well as white front and red rear reflectors and amber pedal reflectors.
That last part makes me curious... does that rule out clipless?

Maybe after you handle enough traffic accidents where someone got seriously injured because of some squid on a bicycle hitting something/someone, you'd be a little irritated too!

Actually I thought I was going to get busted today. It's illegal to cycle on the pavement, and I was cycling towards two cops on it and thought "Sh*t... I am so busted". I even had to stop to let them pass because it was narrow, haha. Thankfully they didn't say anything. It could have been worse, my friend has been stopped and had his details taken down for cycling on a pavement round here before.

mbiker33- sorry you got harassed. Best advice I have is learn your local/state laws re: operating a bicycle on the streets, follow them, and make sure you know them well if/when the piggies come a-prowling. When I used to commute a lot more, and get harassed more often, i used to keep a copy of the NJ laws in my mess bag, as to point stuff out when an uniformed, uniformed um gendarme gave me an undue hassle.
my experience is that most cops are entirely unfamiliar with cycling-related laws, but they also very seldom enforce them.
final thought: sounds like you were on the sidewalk. Don't ride on the sidewalk.

I haven't seen those, could you give a link? It's more out of interest, I'm not really fussed as I doubt a cop will fine me for having everything but amber pedal reflectors on at night.

There's some just like what I had. I got tired of having to flip them over though so now I just use the regular spd clip even with normal shoes. Not comfortable really but it works.

Im not gunna lie, ive done it before. Except that was when i was skateboarding downtown. Good 10 min chase, in the end they caught my friends and me, i had just bought that skateboard , 180 bucks, and they impounded it . Never saw it again, good way to blow 180 in a day.
