Need advice...

I'm looking for a good mountain bike in the $400-$500 range. I really, really want shocks in the back b/c they're better than the other and I will get good enough to use it.

mtnbiker66 07-12-09 03:30 PM

Man thats really tough. I would look at Wal Mart and try to get a nice Next bike. The rear shock is really active and you like that as you get better. The front fork is super plush too and thats a plus.Is this for freeride or XC or AM or DH or YF?

ed 07-12-09 03:46 PM

It's going to be for everything, so it needs to be super tough but pretty easy to pedal up some several-mile 14-28 percent Cat - 'H' climbs.

Duce97 07-12-09 03:46 PM

i will sell you the front shock off of mine for 500....hey its a good start lol

You could put road wheels on it for climbing and change to DH rims for decending. Just carry them in your pack. Will you be hucking this rig?

Let's hope no one who actually needs advice stumbles across this thread and goes to Walmart to pick up their full suspension bike. Hahahahaha!

LOL!

I was thinking
toys r us would be better.

the one that says "jeep" or "Hummer" should suite all your off road needs

definitely hit Wal-mart to make this purchase, they have highly skilled people assembling the bikes and you'll definitely get your money's worth

Thats right! Not only a top of the line product but top notch assembly as well.

Dude get on ebay or crigslist, there so many yuppies out there that buy a nice bike and let it sit in there garage for a few years then sell it for cheap.

You don't need shocks at the rear, young Chel... all this suspension baloney is just a marketing spin that will disappear when the trend is gone in about 250 years. What you need is a hardtail 89'er so that it'll just roll over everything. You'll save a lot of money and won't have to bother with all those technophobia-inducing pivots, moving linkages and stuff - that can go oh so terribly wrong.

This thread sucks!

Myfirsttrek 07-12-09 09:13 PM

LMAO! Thank god this is a joke, The first and second thread got me a little worried, The plush fork comment did give it away right off the bat.. I work at a bike shop and their are so many people coming in with ****ty wal-mart bikes. A little FYI, for those of you taking crappy bikes to an LBS for a tune up, those new cratches are NOT from us throwing renches at the frame.

mystolenbikes 07-12-09 09:18 PM

Here are some of my personal favorite brands you should look in to them.
Huffy, Magna and the best of the best is the brand called Next. I am telling you you can't go wrong with any of them. :D

MODWR 07-12-09 09:33 PM

Ah, humor. I get it. :)

Ever heard of Supercycle. You really need to look into this brand. simply amazing.

junkyard 07-13-09 07:11 AM

Whatever you do, don't go to an LBS. They are all blood sucking vampires.

mtnbiker66 07-13-09 08:18 AM

True. All that the LBS wants is to sell you something you don't really need. They'll also convince you that you can't fix it yourself. Then you'll need alll the acces.....acceser.....aces....alll those other things that go with it like a helmet that you really don't need.

Whenever I see someone riding one, I want to call it a MAGMA.

NEXT. How about one called LAST.

Or a Mongoose TPOS.
