Road / Cross Double?

Am I out of my mind to run a 46/38 cross double crankset on an MTB? It is a converted Shimano compact road double.

A 46/34 might work better. The crank would be lighter and shift better than a triple. If you are fit and your climbs are easy, it should work fine.
