Looking for your .02 on Hydration Packs

Looking for your .02 on Hydration Packs

I run with a MULE now and that is fine.
However I will be doing some longer rides this year & want to be prepared a little more. I have it down to 3.
Anyone using the following? Likes or dislike on them?

CamelBak Havoc Hydration Pack - 100 oz.
CamelBak H.A.W.G. NV Hydration Pack - 100 oz.
CamelBak Mule NV Hydration Pack - 100 oz.

You don't need all that crap. Octane XC is all you need. Live on the edge.

skos 07-21-09 07:09 PM

1st off, 70 oz will not cut it. Where is Location: The 828?

I am in Texas. it is over 100 and I will be doing 12 to 25 miles. Ever get caught 10 miles from the car broken down?

I need to be prepared

Duce97 07-21-09 07:52 PM

CamelBak H.A.W.G. NV Hydration Pack - 100 oz....Dont leave home without it. Best h2o pack hands down imo.

You need a pack that big to do 12 to 25 miles**********?? You're carrying too much stuff,I don't care how hot it is.
I have never been caught 10 miles from the car broken down, I'm afraid to get any more that about 2 miles from the car. The bike path is a gnarly loop.

Buy a Wingnut Hyper and get a 100 oz bladder. Best hydration pack I have ever used

OP-

I checked out your link- you'll be out in the boonies and, if you're going now, it's gonna be unbelieveably hot. Start at the absolute crack of dawn. You may even want to bring more water than a mere 100 oz..

Those trails look great! I'll be heading down there with all my yuppie friends from Boston, thanks for the 411. Keep an eye out for us at the trail heads. Look for all the hot SUV's with Mass plates in the parking lots. Hang ten.

Ive been there , went last year . Stayed at ash grove and rode Tsali and Black mountain. Not a bad place to ride had a great time out there. If i remeber right Tsali was the bigger of the two rides at about 18 or 19 total miles.

Base Price: $120.00 + a 100oz bladder...

Then we can get some $100 diamond studded lock-on grips clamps and gold plated stem bolts.

(some of us are on one income Lincoln)

I have the 100oz MULE version and love it. Room for food, tools, a rain jacket, and I could probably cram some other stuff in there too if I tried.

You didn't get on the good stuff. Tsali is a really small area and the riding is not that good.

Fanny pack. Plenty of storage for my "35 mile" loops to Starbucks.

Yes, it will be very hot. I have been blessed to be able to be active in the heat and love it.

Now you're just being silly. I heartily recommend you skip the Camelbak and go for the blender option. Tasty margaritas, anyone?

Now how would that help a fellow that was 10 mile away from the car and only carrying 4 tubes,a hack saw, multi tool, velvet tux, roller skates, and a bag full of dog treats.

Ahhhh . . . I think this might fill the bill. 150 gallons; solar-powered pump (great for the wide-open Texas spaces and all that sunshine); all-terrain tires; built-in toolbox; food-grade, rotationally-molded water reservoir; 2" hitch ball (a real MAN'S hitch - - none of that foo-foo, wussy, pull-it-with-your moped inch-and-seven-eighths nonsense); AND . . . get this . . . A SPARE TIRE! No getting caught ten miles from the car with a flat with this baby!*

Everything's bigger in Texas.

mtnbiker66 07-22-09 07:57 PM

Come on now guys! Now you're just being a bunch of jerks.
