I missed this...

I built up my Rocky Mountain Blizzard last spring and because of a back injury may have ridden all of 40km slow and painful off road miles on the bike... the saddest thing is having to look at such a spectacular bike hanging from the wall and not be able to use it as god intended.

It wasn't made for putzing down the multi-use trails and it's not a commuter... I built it for one thing and one thing only.

Tonight I was feeling like ass and had the option of lying down or going for a ride which has been all road of late and said f this and took the Rocky down and proceeded to ride a good 25-30 km through our river valley to re-discover the awesome trails we have.

I started out pretty slowly as it has been a while but by the middle of the ride the endorphins were flowing and I was pushing the bike to it's and my own limits... that bike is magic.

I still can't stand up and hammer like I used to but have learned how to sit and spin like a gerbil on crack and cleaned every climb save for Mt Doom... very few folks can clean this wall... especially a 43 year old guy with a gimpy back. That won't stop me from trying though.

I'll take a picture so you understand.

I saw few people out on the trails but blew past some young guys who had stopped before a fairly technical stretch... it's all rocks, mud and low hanging limbs and I just told them to keep their heads down and stay out of the puddles as they tend to hide really deep holes. That and if you f it up you might find yourself going over the edge and falling 20-30 into the river.

I never saw them after that and they may have turned back.

I'm going to do this again tomorrow and see if we can't pick it up a little bit more now that I have scouted out a good bit of trail and because there are more fun bits waiting.

Good stuff. Someone else posted pics recently of "Mt. Doom", steep mofo for sure. Pretty rare that I ride road anymore, I like to have to pay attention to the trail or eat dirt. Gets my mind away from life for a bit...

Our little mount doom is a 500 foot climb where the grade easily exceeds 30%... most peple prefer to come down that.

I know what you mean when you say it takes one's mind away from life for a while as all you can do is focus on the trail ahead of you and keep from eating dirt... or wrapping yourself around a tree.

And then there are always the suicidal squirrels and rabbits... I almost had a baby rabbit go through my front spokes tonight.

Cute little fella... glad he lived.
