Crashed Today... (Pic)

I crashed today while trying to bunnyhop over a little log. Wouldn't have been so bad if I hadn't slammed into a tree and cracked my helmet. I also got some trail rash on my side and shoulder. What you can see in the picture continues further down my back and side.

So I went to the hospital, they gave me a CT scan, and told me my brain was "unremarkable". Kind of hard to hear for a PhD student. Anyway they told me not to drink or ride for a few days. Bummer because tomorrow I turn 28 so no birthday ride. Anyway my derailleur is messed up and the there is now play in my rear brake lever. Suck.

So what's your worst injury?

Riding with no hands on a sandy road. Skidded and went down. Tore up a grip, broke a brake lever, scratched the other, helmet, tore seat, scraped fork, pedal, and rear derailleur. Tore up right elbow and leg. Ripped shirt. It really wasn't fun.

I heal, but the bike was dissappointing. The derailleur and seat were 3 days old.

I forget, was it you who made the most pointless thread on bikeforums a couple weeks ago? Can you say unecessary?

Smashed part of my face slamming a speedy staircase handrail. Cheek and orbital bones nicely banged up but not broken. Misjudged the corner in middle of the staircase, lost control and slammed. Just glad I didn't go over the handrail, the trip down the mountain would have hurt more I think. Now when I have a head cold I can totally feel the nerve in my face being pressed on by my sinuses, and if I press it I can feel it in between my front teeth. It was the only black eye I had come to think of it. Once I healed I went back and did it again without crashing. Considering all the stuff I've done on my bikes over the decades, I've been pretty lucky....I've crashed , just not gotten hurt too much, now if I was to count skateboarding...

Of course. Clearly that's what I live for.

Seriously, though. Road rash isn't the painful compared to having your head slam into a tree. My head still aches and now I have to fix my bike. Suck.

I escapped seriuos energy on my last "major crash."

I was going 20 mph, flat section of trail. I went to hit a jump, some how i messed up, landed wrong, bounced, ended up a tangle of body/gear/bike and flew/rolled/skidded/bounced 25 feet away from the inital jump.

I was bruised and escaped a broken rib by literally less than an inch, and a concussion/broken neck from a tree, by 2 feet.

worse injurys would be BMX related. I went down on freshly "paved" (in Alaska....) road.
my arm and leg and side looked like I went over a cheese gratter.

In a way it kinda sucks that my eye thing didn't happen doing the gnar or going balls-to-the-wall................it was a low speed wash out on a gravelled turn, easy/gentle tip over on the bike, but the eye meets a frikkin stick poking outta the side of trail, skewering said eye. Suckatration, big time.

Wear yer eye protection, kiddies!

Duct tape them on just to be sure. You never know, it might slip.
