New to Biking
Hey everyone, I am looking to buy a bike and I don't know where to start. I am here to ask for advice and guidance.
What I will be using it for is
1) Riding it on trails (forests, parks, mountains) Basically, anywhere there is trees.
2) Riding it to work (15 minute road bike ride)
I am willing to spend $250 for my first bike. I want to buy at the end of September, which I hear this years models usually go on sale as next years models come in.
I am not sure what else to add, please let me know if there is anything else I should specify or any bikes you recommend! My friends recommend me this bike for only $138 bucks. What do you think?
Thanks for the help!

Unless you hate your $138, don't get the Mongoose. Try to snag a discounted Specialized Hardrock or a Trek 3700. This has been the near-unanimous advise to this question, since I joined the forums...and for a reason, too.

Hey Tim.
There aren't too many decent options at that price range. Many of the guys here on BF ride "expensive" bikes and usually have knowledge 'bout such expensive products.
The basic advice anyone on BF will give you is:
A) Get something that fits
B) Do not get full suspension (not worth it if you're under 1000$, really)
C) I'd advise getting a full rigid bike as a suspension fork will be excessively heavy and relatively useless.
D) Stay away from disc brakes. At that price range, they'll suck. V-brakes are good.
A full rigid bike will be faster on the roads than a squish bike. As long as you're not hammering the trails too often, a full rigid will be fine on the trails. Full rigid is fun, at times.
