What should I get ?

Hello all, new rider looking for a good all purpose bike. I plan on doing trails, some downhill, and a little bit of just riding around town. I've been wondering what would be good for everything i'm doing. So far i've been looking on craigslist at downhill bikes, specifically http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/rd...323569486.html . Am I looking at the wrong kind of bike for my needs? Any input would be good, thanks.

Unless you plan on riding only downhill then you are looking at the wrong bike. http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/va...348930439.html that bike is a little more all mountain then the team DH bike. Or even this bike http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/rd...349101755.html

The first bike is a bit out of my price range, the second bike is doable, thanks for the quick reply. Does that price look fair? Also, is there something in that price range that is better for the money? Sorry for all the questions, I just want the right bike for me.

Well first off do you plan on doing mostly downhill or more all mountain just riding around. What your plans are make a huge differance in what bike to buy. Also bikepedia.com is your friend

I will probably do more all mountain than downhill. I would say 75% just riding around and 25% downhill, that's about what i'm doing now.

If that is what you plan or riding somthing like this which is much lighter more all mountain then just downhill would be a better choice. http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/bik/1313425016.html
