Minipump - Specialized Combo Windpipe MTB Shock Pump, Topeak Turbo Morph G?
 

Hi,

I just bought a new full suspension mountain bike - a 2009 Specialized FSR Comp:

I already own quite a few road bikes, so I thought I'd know what to get for emergency, on-the-bike gear. However, when it came to buying a minipump I realized I also needed a shock pump, and they make some combination tire/shock minipumps, like the Specialized Windpipe MTB Shock Pump:

On the other hand, my original thought was to buy a Topeak Mountain Morph, though it seems the version with the guage is called the Turbo Morph G:

I'm curious what people more experience than I think - would the combo shock/tire pump work well, or would it be a case of "two separate pieces of equipment merged into one that doesn't work very well for either"? Or would the higher volume/speed of the Topeak pump be more advantageous because mountain biking results in more flats? (or does it? I have no idea...)

If you have a preferred choice over these two I'd love to hear it, to.

P.S. I'll be mountain biking in Minnesota, if it matters.

Mountain Morph has a gauge too. It's a little one on the hose. Really nice pump that fills up tires quickly. I've never used the Specialized.

Weird...looks like they may have changed it. Too bad too, it was a handy little gauge that was small and didn't get in the way. Pump is pretty big though, but not too big to fit in a Camelbak.

The combo pump from Specialized sucks. It works, but not great at either job. I bought one, used it for a bit, and have since gone back to a separate tire and fork/shock pump.

Can't give any info about the other pumps mentioned in here.

Hmm, thanks for the feedback. What separate shock pump do you use that you feel does a good job? :-)

I'm really unfamiliar with the field, I know Specialized sells an independent shock pump called the FutureShock pump that only does shocks:

Also, if you don't mind, how often do you actually use your shock pump? Like I pump up my tires every week...is it a weekly thing? A yearly thing?

Whatever you have, it looks like it *is* the "G" model I mentioned, though they may have changed the name.
