old rider back/tubless ?

back into mtb after 20 years. bought a sweet hard tail w/ fox forx and xtr, including hydraulic brakes. the bike has bontrager xxx lite rims with maxxis larsen tires and is set up tubless. from what i have read online the wheels and tires are not tubless specific, but i guess they are set up with the stan's rim strip. i deflated the tire and can feel no tube and the bead seal is tight almost like it is glued shut. do i have to put additional sealant in the tires for possible punctures and to keep the bead seal good? carry a tube on rides? how often does this type of system fail?

They do tend to "glue" to the bead I put in new sealant every three or four months. It tends to evaporate. Just pop one side loose pour in your favorite brand and re inflate.

i've been riding tubeless for the past 3-4yrs and have never used any goo. Since i've been riding my Cobalts, it's even nicer cause the rim has no holes other than the Valve, so it holds air much better than rims that need a rim strip.

arent you rolling on the new crankbros wheels? By the way your website is very nice I ride in Florida so I am familiar with the trails on there and am impressed with some of the stuff you have cleared.
