switch from Truvative spline drive to Race Face square taper?

I've got a Race Face Forged LP crank that is for square taper BB.

I'm wondering what you think of swapping from my Hardrock's stock "Truvativ ISO Flow 3.0 crankset for Power Spline BB, replaceable rings"
to the Race Face like this:
https://cgi.ebay.com/Race-Face-LP-Cra...d=p3286.c0.m14

I'd need to swap out the BB. I'd use it for regular, beginner trail use.

The stock cranks seem like they have some flex in them that causes them to rub the FD when I'm stomping. The chainrings on the Truvative look like cheap stamped steel so not sure of the weight.

If your Power Spline is flexing enough to rub the FD...I don't believe the square taper will be any better. I'd sell them both and look for some Hollowtech II OEM "take-off" cranks on ebay. Those won't flex much due to the external bearing design.

That...or just go to Jensonusa.com and drop $99 on an LX crankset while it's on sale. You'll never worry about it again.

So you think it's the BB and not the cranks then?

Hard to say...the BB/Crank interface would be my guess...but that's what makes the HT2 setup so strong. It's not just the bearing placement...it's the whole design. Excellence.

Cool, will have to sell the Race Face and start saving. I'd rather go forward than backwards.
I need to build my rear street wheel first though.
Mavic 221 rim with Deore XT hub. First wheel build DIY.

I used to have the same problem as you...(though I'm 200lbs)...my cranks would flex enough to have my chain rub the FD. When I went HT2...no more issues.
