Need Tire Advice!

I am currently running Michelin commuter tires on my MB. I run about 75% road miles to get to some single track. The commuter tires are less than "fair" on the dirt. When I ran my knobbies on pavement i kept loosing knobs on the sides.

Is there a better tire option for running pavement and dirt. I hate driving to the dirt, but is that what I am reduced to, burning fossil fuel?

I think the Kenda Small Block 8 does pretty well on road and hardpack dirt.
