Would a Specialized Ground Control bike be ok to start out on?

Hi,
Want to start MTB....someone has a a Specialized Ground Control 8-9yrs old has a Rock Shox Quadra 21R fork, Avid SD 2.0 brakes, Deore XT derailleurs...$200...I prob get him down to 175...I just want to start riding, and looking for something used? I know I could buy a new low end Specilized MTB for 300-350,,,would that be better? What do you think....I need some advise...

Thanks

sounds ok to me. Besides a huffy, any bike is better than none. If it's a nice bike then do it, it's really just a judgment call on your part. But that's just an opinion of mine.

Ahhhh . . . the old FSRs are starting to come out of the woodwork. Generally, older FSRs are still perfectly fine and a still-relevant suspension design. In this particular case, though, if it's old enough to have the Quadra, I might think twice.

If the frame has the linkage driving the shock, that's good; if it's the older Mac-strut design (bottom end of the shock mounted fixed in the yoke), you might pass and look for something a bit newer. Either way, the Quadra is a museum piece and should be retired.
