Yup. If it's well ridden it may have some worn out parts. But other than that it should be fine for light riding, paved trails, even gnarly single track (depending on condition, etc).

Definitely and a good buy at that price. My wife and I both ride our 1995 Cannondales on singletrack and rocky terrain of W Pa.

I would say yes. I am new to mountain biking too, and bought a 12 year old Gary Fisher. I can't even tell it's old. I test rode some new ones, but this one was awesome. Just test out some newer models in your price range and compare to this one and see what you like.

As of now, I have a completely rebuilt full 09 XT prepped Gary Fisher Hartail. And i also have a 96 Fisher HKEK. For some reason i have spent the last few weeks beating the crap out of the 96, and have been having a blast on that thing. Dont let the age fool you.
