Tips on improving my mtb???

Hi! I have an old Huffy american bike and i have to say its very crappy. Actually it was my dads bike and i sort of inherited it. Personally i hate it. Its very heavy and unconfortable. How can i make it suit me better? Ive bought a pair of Kenda Tires and a Veloplush saddle, but i feel i have a log way to go. If i had enough money i'd buy a MERIDA which i think are the best bikes for MTB. I want to buy some parts for my Huffy but i dont know much about this. Maybe some shimano v-brakes, shifts and levers, but i dont know which is better, alivio, deore, etc. Also im interested in a new handlebar and maybe a new coat of paint. Does anybody have tips? if someone out there has, thanks a lot!

He was talking about improving his mountain bike not his biking skills.
I agree with nomad don't spend any money on this bike. Ride this as long as you can while saving for your next bike, also start looking on craigslist too, you can probably find a half way decent bike for the amount you are going to spend on this bike to upgrade.
