who makes whose frame?
Okay. I've heard that fuji (once owned by fuji film) seperated and now owns trek. Ive also heard that giant makes trek, giant, specialized and bianchi frames but fuji isnt in that list.. Any clarification on this or links that tell what frames are made by who?

i found out fuji is made by ideal. but I still wonder what frames are made by who. I know giant has made frames for trek and specialized. I have an 07 rockhopper. is it made by giant or merida? and then cannondale, mongoose and gt are pacific cycles? Its so confusing. https://allanti.com/page.cfm?PageID=328 that site helps a little.

Interesting info. But in the end, who cares, does it matter?

I think I kind of already wore this one out in the Does anyone care where their frame is built thread, and the Kona thread. People are really up in arms about it at this point.

I heard that Specialized is made from some super high quality material that makes it the strongest frames on Earth. I read that somewhere. Forgot where. I think it was a forum.

haha. very funny. then I sort of revoked that statement and stated that i was possibly unedjumacated about the matter. and Motobecane frames are absolute junk. I just buy them because im surley not done growing so ill need a new frame sometime so why not spend 800 to get way better components.

About four Taiwanese giants (pun intended) with satellite outsourcing capacity in mainland China make probably 80% of what most of us ride.
Edit: Here is a partial list that I found. Don't take it as authoritative because some of the players have probably played 'musical chairs' due to contract changes, etc. since 2004:
Giant (Taiwan): Giant, Scott USA, Specialized, Trek
Giant (China): Giant, Iron Horse, Specialized, Trek
Marin made by:
A-Pro, Aluforce, CTS, Fairly, Sunrise
Kinesis (China): Haro, K2, Raleigh
Kinesis (Taiwan): Haro, Iron Horse, Jamis, K2, Kona, Raleigh, Titus
Ideal (China and Taiwan): Bianchi, K2, Pacific (aka GT, Schwinn, Mongoose, etc.), Trek, Fuji
A-Pro (Taiwan) also does: Fuji, Haro, Iron Horse, Marin, Norco, Raleigh

There are many very skilled welders in Asia.
Stands to reason if they've welded hundreds of frames.

Ode to Kenhill- (remember...I said art must come to me of it's own free will...this one was forced, thus the cheeze)
Whether it's welded here or there
I'll break it nonetheless
The weather in which you walk
Should dictate how you dress.
I first wore shorts in a blizzard
When my Fisher shredded stairs
A Tee in a Tornado
When my Jamis caught some air
As things begin to fail you ask
Yourself "Is it just me?"
Am I dropping off a ledge
When I should really be XC?
No way am I to settle
For "the sit'n'spinny" show
So I got a killah dealeo
On Scrubs old Rootbeer Flow.
The bonus of a USA welded frame like say something Sinister that FTW might build is that I know that when my frame breaks, the welder will be nearby so that I may rub his nose in his failed weld.

I'm not sure that it's possible to know for certain without access to Specialized's records. I do know that, today, Merida owns a big chunk of Specialized. Thus, it would seem reasonable to believe that Specialized would not go to Giant -- Merida's competition -- for frames. But what seems reasonable might or might not be so. If Merida's capacity was maxed out, then maybe Specialized would source some frames elsewhere. Who knows.
In the end, I'm not aware of any way to determine the provenance of an individual frame. It would be interesting to be able to know that, but it is very much in the interests of the major brands to keep us in the dark. If we knew who really made each frame, then we would begin building up brand loyalties to the manufacturers, and that would be bad for the bike-branding companies like Trek and Specialized.

Who makes Bianchi? Giant or Merida?
Are there only two large frame manufacturers in Taiwan? Or more?

Not that I have any first hand experience with Sinister our would need to worry about rubbing his nose in anything. I hear nothing but props for his work and if I had the coin...I'd be on a Gruitr or Ridge in a heartbeat.

Merida makes some Specialized bikes, but not all, they also own a part of Specialized. Merida Bikes are pretty bad ass
