What do I need to use this bashguard?

http://www.jensonusa.com/store/produ...Bashguard.aspx

I'm looking to do this..

Okay so I want to remove the small and big rings off my SLX crank.. will that work? And what does that bash require - just a iscg mount or some kind of other thing too? Thanks.

Also, what are those thingies called that go just behind the crank, lower down, rollers or something? It kind of pulls the chain up. Thanks.

Edit: Is it possible to use that with more than one ring?

You need an e.thirteen chain retention system to mount it to.

mzeffex 12-16-09 05:33 PM

Ah, alright. So I'll just wait till I can get the whole thing - or do you need to buy the idler (?), the top bash guard thing, and the taco seperately? Thanks again.

Tonight I threw on some risers in 27 inch and removed the big and small rings. Craziest flippin hardrock ever.

dminor 12-16-09 05:55 PM

You'll need to buya guide like the SRS. You are going to need the boomerang to bolt the Taco onto. You will also need the lower idler to install in the taco (see the slot?) If you can find everything without the supercharger (bash ring) on CL or eBay, that's be good. But by the time you gather up all these parts, why not just get a whole SRS or LG-1?

mzeffex 12-16-09 07:00 PM

I'm going to buy it all at once; working in a bike shop comes in handy once in a while. I was hoping you would answer by the way, obviously because of your experience.

While on the whole downhill topic, any suggestions for 25.4 stems?

mzeffex 12-16-09 10:28 PM

Okay.. starting over kinda.

What would you reccomend to run? I'm doing the 36t SLX crank with a 104 bcd and an ISCG or ISCG 05 adapter - if it were your bike - what would you do? I'd like to do e-13 unless you have a better idea.

dminor 12-16-09 11:50 PM

Sorry, refresh my memory - - what's it going on? Oh, and it will be an e.thirteen recommendation.

mzeffex 12-17-09 06:45 AM

Not sure what you mean "What's it going on".. the frame? Specialized hardrock..steel.. with adapter for iscg..

Will it still climb okay with the wider bars and short dh stem?

One last thing I forgot to add: I'm unclear about what the lg1 attaches to - the crank bolts or the iscg?

Sorry for all the questions, I just want to get my facts straight before I screw up.

dminor 12-17-09 08:08 AM

OK - - I would go with the LS.HT (if you don't want to use a bash) or the HS.HT (which gives you a thiner, lighter version of the Supercharger bash. Both are for hardtails.

More on stems later gotta run.

mzeffex 12-17-09 08:35 AM

Alright - I can't find any prices on the ls.ht but I found it on e.13's site and it looks good. Look for bottom protection as well (taco?) though. Would the lg1 not work for a hardtail?

dminor 12-17-09 10:42 AM

LG-1 should work fine . . . just a bit of overkill for your application; that's why I suggested the SS.HT. Either one would be fine.

Now, on to stems. I'm partial to Syncros and Sunline stems; BUT . . . they are all for OS bars. In fact, most DH stems you're going to find (and most XC ones too) are for 31.8 bars now. You're on your own unless you're ready to go to OS bars too.

mzeffex 12-17-09 02:56 PM

I'm probably going to stick to the 25.4 because I just got it for free from the shop.. a guy I work with says he has an old specialized downhill stem which I can buy for $10, hopefully he'll bring it today. Thanks for all your help, I really appreciate it.

reptilezs 12-17-09 06:28 PM

why dont you just use a regular bashguard? do you need a chain guide?

Dannihilator 12-17-09 06:59 PM

What's all this e.13 talk coming from Doug?

mzeffex 12-17-09 07:45 PM

I do need a chain guide, because my front is a single. I got the stem today.. it's seriously huge and heavy. Perfect.

I was going to get the ls1 I think it was called, no bash just chainguide, but it was for 34+ teeth, mine is a 32.

SO I ordered the lg1 after all. $94.

Dannihilator 12-17-09 07:49 PM

And all I got was a saddle.

mzeffex 12-17-09 08:27 PM

Saddles are fun. But I doubt you can get one to hold a chain in place.

On that note, are chain guides really loud? Or loud at all?

Dannihilator 12-17-09 08:34 PM

Depends on the chainline. My E.13 SRS is pretty silent, there is some sound but nothing too bad.

mzeffex 12-17-09 09:11 PM

Alright - I'm a fan of quiet on bikes. I just found out the stem came off a 2005 hardrock.. just looks like a dh stem. Erf. I hope it holds up well.

Looks nice. Could you provide a write up after some time on it? Specifically, how well it works using an ISCG adapter plate in stead of a frame with the tabs built in.

Should work just like a frame with the iscg tabs work.

I'm using an adapter with mine, bent the one tab on the frame the tab broke, so broke the other two tabs off and am using the adapter.

I'll be sure to keep an update on it. I'll be getting it wednesday (hopefully.. otherwise not till next year!).. and then I'll get to test it out in New Jersey around x mas.
