1990 trek 800

i picked up a trek antelope 800 [1990 black, blue fonts] that seems less than original. it has a suntour crankset and shifters, shimano exage rd and cantilever brakes. one brake lever is toast, since i have a new set of deore v brake levers should i change the cantilever to v. the cost for new cantilever levers looks about the same as the cost for the v brakes. i plan to use the bike to ride on the back roads on snow days. not the most friendly environment, but i needed a bike i could "put away wet". it might get a bucket of water to rinse off the sand and salt, when it starts screaming for a cleaning.

I like V-brakes much more than cantilevers, so that's my vote.
