Need some help with component selection

I have a 2007 Specialized Hardrock Comp Disk that I want to upgrade. I know it's better to sell the bike and buy a new one but don't have the coin to do so this year. As a result, I want to fix the follow issues and get another year out of it:

1) Shifting sucks. Thinking of buying a good set of derailleurs to help with the problem.

2) Crankset is way to flexable. Want to buy something much more rigid.

I'm looking for components that offer the best bang for the buck (closeouts etc) yet are still quality components. There's a lot of deals to be had on jenson, pricepoint etc but not sure what I should be looking at. Any suggestions? I've attached the componentry the bike came with. Any insights, considerations or things to avoid or look for would be appreciated. Thanks!
