Looking to buy my first mountain bike
Sorry, I'm sure there are lots of these "starter bike" threads, but I couldn't exactly find the answer I was looking for, so I made a new one
Is this bike a good deal? or are there better options out there with more bang for my buck?

If that bike is pretty ****ty, then what's a good starter bike for around the 600 dollar range? (I'm planning to upgrade as I go)

I just bought a bike from "Bikes Direct" (29er Fly Ti) and I am very happy with them and the bike. It is ALOT of bike for the money.
If you only want to spend $600 or so I would go with a hardtail for now. I'm guessing that any new full suspension bike in that price
range is going to weigh a ton and have below average components.
The Motobecane Fantom 29er looks like a really nice bike for $600. With the 29" wheels you'll get a better ride in the rough stuff than
a bike with 26" wheels also, you may not need the rear suspension.
