Fixing non-moving front suspension
 

I just picked up a Haro mtb for 35 bucks, so am not suprised to find things not in working condition. The issue I am having the the forks is that they are not moving, neither up nor down, like they are seized. There are adjusment knobs on the top of each side of the fork, as well as a allen screw on the bottom of each side.

Any ideas on how I can get these forks back to working order? I read a thread on taking them apart, but is there something that I am looking for? I believe the forks are Omni, and the bike is Haro V1.

Take the "fork" apart. Clean the "fork". Lube the "fork". Put the "fork" back together. Cross your forkin' fingers. ;)

What should be used to lube these forks? Any particular oil or grease? I have never worked on a MTB before, I typically hang out in the vintage road bike arena.

Grease will be fine.

If'n ya wanna get fancy...go get some Judy Butter from your LBS. Mine has tons of it. Great for that old frikkin frok.

I'm assuming there's some weather involved here somehow. Prob should take it apart, bust out the dremel and brush all the rust off the innerds. (if any) Then use some sort of grease to lube it up. I use axle grease to lube up the archaic innards of my old/crapped out fork. Elastomers and coils...no open bath.

If you can get some suspension oil or Judy Butter...that would be great on the seals / stanchions.

Just how many forks are on this bike?

FORK.... Moving on... In the end the FORK refuses to come apart. When procured, the FORK was at full extension, after removing the bolts from the bottom of the FORK, they would still not move. Put bike back together, took it out and hammered down on the front while riding, hoping to break it loose. Drove the FORK down as far as it would go, and now it refuses to move from that point. It appears that the FORK might be shot. I guess for the price it does not really matter, and will just release her back into the wild for someone who wants it for the frame.
